Status Update (31/03/2013)

Welcome ladies, gentlemen and gamers to another update from Sonic Punch Studio here at the Sonic Punch Line!

This is just going to be a short status update since I'm busy crunching down towards completing Bubble Virtuoso, so here goes:

  • Started investigation into performance issues on mobile devices and as a result had to optimize certain parts of various FSMs (with a little help from a friend of mine) and changed the materials used for the majority of the game objects used in the game. Noticeable improvement in performance.
  • Did an experiment on improving the auto-scale system utilizing arrays. The experiment worked; however implementation of the same method ran into complications so therefore ditched it in favour of a modified version of the old method where the system sets a global constant (based on the height of the device screen) which affected game objects will refer to when setting their scale.
  • Changed the background and the how the flash effect works; now works with less components - and the background moves now!
  • Tweaked Bubble Time to affect both score multipliers and time bonuses.
  • Tweaked the min-max scale of the Bubbles when they appear. Also created different versions of the bubble asset tailored for different ranges of device resolutions.
Whelp, that's it for now! I will be more or less posting status updates in the coming weeks so make sure you tune in next week here at Sonic Punch Line!
